Canton Tower is a landmark project in Guangzhou, with a height of 600 meters, including the transmitting antenna, in which the main body of the tower is 450 meters (454 meters at the top of the sightseeing platform) and the mast of the antenna is 150 meters, making it the first tower in China and the second highest tower in the world.

The construction land area is 175,460 square meters, the total construction area is 114054 square meters, the tower construction area is 44,276 square meters, and the basement construction area is 69,779 square meters.The tower is designed as an elliptical gradient mesh structure. Its structure is generated by the change of two elliptical steel shells rotating upwards, one in the basic plane and the other in the imaginary plane with a height of 450 meters. The two ellipses twist 135 degrees to each other, and the two ellipses shrink and become thinner at the waist. The bottom of the mesh structure is loose, while it is dense up to the waist. The waist is tightened, like a braided rope, showing a "slender waist". Then the mesh structure is diverging upward and supported by gradually thinner tubular structural columns.The plane size and the structure density are controlled by two ellipses which control the structure design, and they produce different effect areas at the same time.The whole tower will not be in the same shape when viewed from different directions.The structure with a more open top produces a transparent effect for observation, while the section with a more dense waist can provide a relatively private experience.The whole meshy air leakage cavities of the tower can effectively reduce the heaviness and wind load of the tower.The tower is in a special-class seismic design, which can resist earthquakes with an intensity of 7.8 and typhoons with an intensity of 12. The design service life exceeds 100 years.

The project started in 2005 and was completed in September 2010. During the five-year construction, the Project Department has overcome a series of world-class technical problems such as steel structure and ultra-high concrete construction.
